I was in a similar predicament, I had muscle, but also fat. I wanted to cut the fat, but keep the muscle. I hated cardio in the gym. I turned to surfing. Now I do 5 hour surf sessions, have tons of fun, work on my balance, and whole body strength, and have lost a lot of fat and have increased my strength and especially my cardio strength (I never did much cardio, mostly hit the weights).
If you live along the coastline and it’s a possibility I suggest it, and if you don’t live on the coast, MOVE .
